Are you ready to be a part of the most premier Vietnamese-American event of the year?

It’s time for the National Independence Day Parade, also known as the Washington, DC July 4th Parade. If you’ve participated in the past, you know what a fun event this is! And if this is your first time–we can’t wait to meet you!

Vietnamese-Americans Celebrating Freedom Needs Volunteers for the July 4th Parade!
A project of the Vietnamese-American Community of DC, MD & VA, we’re proud to be one of the 75 groups chosen nationally to participate in America’s Independence Day Parade. This is our 18th consecutive year and we are excited you are joining us! The parade takes place in the heart of downtown Washington, DC on Constitution Avenue and is watched by over 400,000 people every year!

About Volunteering

Volunteers of all ages are wanted to dance (no experience necessary), hold banners & wave, and help with logistics. Some practices are required depending on your role.

NOTE: Mandatory Dress Rehearsals
Dates:  June 28 and July 3
Time: 12-4pm
Location: Mason District Governmental Center, 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003

Performers

This year we are featuring three performing groups:
Fan Dance (Intermediate dancers - female)
Umbrella Partner Dancers (Beginners – female and males)
Basket Dance/Modeling (Easy)
Practices will be held on Saturday and Sundays in Maryland and Virginia. Stay tuned for a practice schedule!

Banner Holders

It is what it sounds like! We need at least 30 people to hold the banners to represent our community. Ao dai for men and women required (we can provide one for you, but let us know in advance). Banners are very light, and the key is for you to wave & smile at the crowd. Can you do all 3 the same time? You are a shoo-in for this activity! Mandatory meeting on June 28 and July 3.

Logistics

Don’t like the limelight but want to help out? In addition to performers, we need people working all the logistical pieces behind the scene too! We need help with the following areas: Costumes/Props/Makeup, Logistics Managers for Parade Day Coordination, Operations Team (food, transportation, security, etc.) We would love your time & participation!

If interested, please fill out our volunteer form and we’ll be in touch with you!

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, have a memorable July 4th, and represent the Vietnamese Americans Celebrating Freedom (VACF) in celebrating America’s birthday.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon! We are also on Facebook – “Vietnamese-Americans Celebrating Freedom”

Sincerely,

The July 4th Team

Gabbie Pham – Youth Director (VA)
Ally Le – Youth Director (MD)
Uyen Dinh – Community Liaison
